When we first thought of the theme for this third issue of the Collateral Damage series, Boots on the Ground, we intended to focus on the depredation caused by the patriarchal lust for power and territory and the various ways in which it can manifest: sanctions, tariffs, and actual military deployment being only a few. However, with the recent widespread pushback against the current US administration’s ill-conceived policies, we recognize that there can be “boots on the ground” on both sides.

The Summer 2025 issue of Four Winds Journal, therefore, addresses the many ways that people—educators, the courts, professionals, and some politicians, as well as thousands of concerned citizens all around the country—are responding to the tyrannical demands emerging from the White House every day.
